South Coast winery was developed by Jim Carter, in the 1990’s after a love for growing plants turned into the passion you see today at South Coast Winery. He was eventually shown the land that South Coast Winery sits on today by his father nearly 10 years prior. South Coast would eventually push to open a gorgeous resort and spa that goes along with the property as well. In 2008 South Coast would give notice to the wine world that they were hear to stay after winning the California State Winery of the year and then backing that up by doing it again the following year in 2009 and again in 2013.

Sitting at the corner of Rancho California Road and Anza Road is the complex that is South Coast Winery. At the front is the main building housing the spa, tasting room and winery which is surrounding by vines. Behind this building is the resort along with many of the villa buildings. The grounds are immaculate with gorgeous views of the rolling hills and endless views of vines. It’s hard not to get lost in time will your sitting outside on your balcony or tasting room while you are here.

We chose to do the bar tasting while we were at South Coast Winery and were given seven different tastings. The tasting included the Anniversary Cuvee, Cabernet Sauvignon Rose, Gewurztraminer Late Harvest, Ruby Cuvee Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Wild Horse Peak Select Big Rock Reserve Boulder Red. Our favorite from the bunch was the Sauvignon Blanc which had notes of pear, apple, grapefruit, citrus and kiwi.
