Located on the east side of the valley floor in Oakville, Plumpjack puts out some top-notch Napa Valley wine. To get to the winery you will need to turn off of Silverado Trail and drive back through the vineyards in front of the property. Sitting amongst the vines since 1995 but first established in 1992 in the Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco. Plumpjacks 2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is one of only two screw cap wines to receive 100-points from Robert Parker. This wine continues to be the flagship wine for the winery.

The tasting room and wine shop itself are not terrible large which gives it a quant feel. Our tasting was seated and located on the covered patio overlooking the vines to the north of the property. This made a great scenery during our tasting and offered a nice cool environment in the shade.

The tasting included four wines with a surprise at the end. The wines included in the event were Reserve Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Although all were fairly good our favorite was of course the Estate Cabernet. It had a gorgeous dark purple color with notes of black raspberry, blueberry, lilac, rose pedal, mocha, and chalk.

Tannins were velvety and smooth, the only knock to this wine was that it was missing some acidity to balance everything out, it almost made the wine feel flat. After we finished our tasting, we were also giving the choose of one more non-Plumpjack wine. We went with the Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Howell Mountain and it did not disappoint either.
