Cakebread Cellars sits off of CA 29 (St. Helena Highway) just over 12 miles north of downtown Napa in Oakville. This area is known for some heavy hitter wineries such as; Nickel & Nickel, Robert Mondavi, Turnbull, and Opus One. The property was purchased by Jack and Dolores Cakebread in 1972 from the Sturdivant Family. The property was first planted with Sauvignon Blanc but produces exceptional Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah as well as a few other varietals.

Our visit to Cakebread Cellars was one of the best visits we’ve ever experienced, it was personal, informative and included exceptional hospitality. We selected to go with The Perfect Pair: Wine & Food Tasting. This tasting is offered Thursday to Monday two times a day (11:00am and 2:00pm) and pairs one tapa style plate with every wine. This tasting included a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,

Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon and came with individualized bites paired by the in house chef. Each of these were locally sourced or grown on property in the vineyards garden.

The Chardonnay was exceptional in this tasting and was worth the purchase of at least a bottle or two. Flavors of apple, melon, butterscotch and honeydew with an exceptional mouth feel. This was accompanied by a house special empanada.

The full tasting menu was as follows; Sauvignon Blanc served with a miso shrimp cocktail, Chardonnay served with a house special empanada, Pinot Noir served with pork bellow lettuce wraps and Cabernet Sauvignon served with blue cheese crumble biscuit.
