A stone through away from Cakebread Cellars sits Sequoia Grove Winery. They are a family owned winery that was established in 1979. The Sequoia tree sitting on CA 29 gives away their entrance location. After you head back the tree lined driveway you will come to a grove of Sequoia trees that encompass the winery offering up much needed shade for your tasting.

Our tasting was conducted outside under these trees and offered up the perfect weather. Our host at Sequoia Grove was amazing, offering suggestions and different tidbits of information about the property. We chose to participate in the Single-Vineyard Patio Wine Tasting which offered up a hand full of wines.

Although we expected to taste five wines while at Sequoia Grove we ended up tasting eleven different wines on property; Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, a vertical of the ‘13, ‘14, and ‘15 Tonella Vineyard Cabernet, as well as the Lamoreaux and Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The whites here are exceptional and the price of the Sauvignon Blanc for the quality is hard to beat. Almost a medium plus body on this normally light bodied wine, notes of star fruit, lime, lemon, grapefruit, wet rock and honeydew. Good balance with a strong acidity. Our favorite of the bunch was Lamoreaux Vineyard Cabernet; blackberry, black raspberry, plum, lilac, orange peel and tobacco can be found on this wine. Medium plus across the board offering up a good balance and a strong wine.
